Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is an illness in which people experience overwhelming physical or mental fatigue that is not improved by rest. ME/CFS may get worse after activity, a symptom known as post-exertional malaise (PEM). The fatigue is different than just being tired.
The Center for Disease Control estimates that up to 2.5 million Americans can have ME/CFS.
In many cases, ME/CFS may start after a viral infection, such as pneumonia or COVID-19. In one study, 53.1% of hospital patients report significant fatigue 2 months after COVID-19 infection.
This site discusses a “Medical Food” which is used under the guidance of a physician to treat ME/CFS.
